Waterloo, a settlement along the Colorado River in Central Texas, was founded in 1837. Two years later, Republic of Texas President Mirabeau B. Lamar and the Texas Congress commissioned the purchase of 7,735 acres along the Colorado River. Waterloo was renamed “Austin” in honor of Stephen F. Austin, the “father of Texas,” making it the capital city of the Republic of Texas.
Now, with a population of over 900,000, Austin has come a long way from its humble beginnings. Thanks in part to the University of Texas and an incredibly strong music scene, “The Live Music Capital of the World” is the second fastest growing large city in the nation. Manos de Cristo is a nonprofit organization that began in 1990 to promote independence and self-reliance among low-income individuals. Manos de Cristo helps more than 15,000 people in the Austin area every year. Their ability to help is possible due to the hard work and dedication of those who offer time and donations. They serve the needs of our community members who are less fortunate.
Dr. Schmid is commits to doing his part to help underprivileged community members receive access to the comprehensive dental care they deserve. He has volunteered at the Manos de Cristo Dental Clinic, donating his dental skills to the community.
The Manos de Cristo Dental Clinic has provided more than 7,741 appointments and $1,041,842 in free dental services to Austin’s working poor since its inception. They offer emergency dental services in addition to dental hygiene and teeth cleanings, dental fillings, crowns, and other restorative treatments. Dr. Schmid strongly supports the mission of the Dental Clinic and has the honor to have worked with them.
